Our Story
Laggis' Fish Farm has been a family business since 1979, but it didn't begin as the fish farm it is today.

My dad started the farm raising fish to sell to restaurants. It didn't take long for him to discover that cleaning and preparing fish for restaurants wasn't exactly the part of the business he enjoyed most.
​
Along the way, he recognized something else: there was a growing need for live fish to stock private ponds and lakes. He changed direction, and Laggis' Fish Farm began evolving into the pond-stocking business it is today.
There was no blueprint for him to follow. My dad learned fish farming largely on his own—through years of hands-on experience, trial and error, problem solving, and a determination to figure things out.

Over the decades, the farm grew to 29 ponds, serving pond owners, lake associations, communities, and families throughout Michigan.
​
I grew up with the fish farm as part of our family's life, working alongside my mom and dad from the time I was 13 years old. I learned by being there—helping with the work, watching my dad solve problems, and seeing firsthand just how much dedication it takes to keep a fish farm running.

I never imagined that one day I would be the person responsible for carrying it forward.
​
Carrying the Legacy Forward
Today, I'm learning the farm from an entirely different perspective.
​
Running Laggis' Fish Farm has meant learning things I never expected to learn, making difficult decisions, solving problems as they come, and sometimes figuring things out as I go... much like my dad did when he started all those years ago.
​
I'm working to restore ponds, improve water quality, update aging infrastructure and equipment, improve the way we handle and care for our fish, and modernize the business while preserving what made it special in the first place.
​
There have been days spent knee-deep in pond muck, days fixing things I didn't know how to fix, long hours hauling and caring for fish, and plenty of moments when I've wondered what I got myself into.
​
But every time I look around this farm, I see what my dad built and I'm not ready to let that disappear.
​
My goal isn't simply to keep Laggis' Fish Farm operating. I want to build on the foundation my dad created, to continue learning, introduce new ideas, improve the farm, expand what we can offer, and make sure this place is here for another generation.
​
There is still a lot of work ahead, and I'm still learning every day. But maybe that's fitting.
My dad built this farm by learning as he went. Now I'm doing the same thing to carry it forward.

Laggis’ Fish Farm is entering a new chapter. My goal is to build on what my dad created while continuing to improve the farm for the years ahead.
​
That means restoring our ponds, improving water quality and fish care, updating aging infrastructure, and finding better ways to operate while continuing to learn along the way.
​
I also hope to expand what we can offer our customers and continue developing the farm so it can serve Michigan pond owners for another generation.
​
The farm may continue to change, but the values behind it won’t — hard work, healthy fish, honest service, and doing our best for every customer who comes through the gate.
